Garden of cacti and succulents located in Panchkula is the brain child of Dr. J.S.Sarkaria. A surgeon by profession, he was the Captain in I.M.S(Indian Medical Services) and was in a frontline during the entire Burma war. After retirement from Indian Army he created this garden by not only designing it but also making the donation of lifelong collections to HUDA . Initailly,the garden was named as “National cactus and succulent botanical garden and research center” but after the death of Dr. sarkaria in 2004 this garden was rechristined as “Dr. J.S Sarkaria National Cactus and Succulent Botanical HUDA Garden and Research Center ,the garden is located in sector-5 , Panchkula.
This eye catching candy is located in the heart of the Panchkula city and claims to be the Asia’s largest cactus garden spread over an eight acres of the land. Large number of cacti and succulent plants have been collected around the globe and have been naturalized here. The breathe taking view at the cactus garden is the result of collection of exotic species of cacti and succulents acclimatized on 22 raised mounds made along a zig–zag path. The lust green lawn surrounded by the Cycas in the middle of garden further adds to beauty of garden .
